Ho Dracon Ho Megas

Compared to the earlier Therion albums is this light-years ahead of things. The old albums ("Of Darkness" and "Beyond Sanctorium") where nothing I liked. They where big influences to todays death metal scene and many people loves them, but I don't. This on the other hand has all that they didn’t have. Thematerial, the high production and the extremely original sound makes this one of the best and most interesting albums of ever. It's not B.M., it's more like Dark Metal or something like that with strong gothic influences. The lyrics are in English and a to me unknown language possible Hebrew, sung with very original evil vocals.

Lepaca Kliffoth

Therion continuous to sing and write material about ancient demons and dragons with a original sound. This album however is different then the last one mainly because of the vocals who aren't as cool. Otherwise the music is mostly the same. A very interesting song is "The beauty in Black" that features two opera singers, one male and one female, this might sound weird and since Absu didn't succeeded very well with that I didn't think it could sound good, but Therion is proving otherwise. I believe that this album is not as good as Ho Dracon Ho Megas but it is very good.

The Beauty in Black

This is a MCD that follows up the last album. It is really an unnecessary release since there is only one new song and 4 new versions of Lepaca Kliffoth songs, that aren't very different from the original. Some of the best tracks are featured here as well.

The Siren of The Woods

Wow! This is great stuff. Perhaps the best Therion has done? No, "Ho Dracon Ho Megas" was better, but this is better then "Lepaca Kliffoth". Their style has changed a bit once again to a more heavy metal sounding music with opera choirs as main vocalists. That is a great move and the songs on this MCD is great. It’s only about 20 min. but it’s very expensive only so you know what your buying. The two first songs are also featured in their full-length album "Theli", both in a different version though I cant hear the difference. The Last song is the has only normal vocals and sound more like "Lepaca Kliffoth" material, and it's also great. This should only be bought because of the last song since it's very unessesary promo MCD for the album. Buy it instead

Theli

This is some of the best stuff I'’ve heard so far this year (Aug.). Very nice in the vain of their promoting MCD. This album has 12 songs, all of them great and a total playing time of 51 min. Almost all songs has opera choirs and even some normal vocals by Dan Swanö. This is a must have album if you liked their previous two albums. The music can be described as a mixture between Carl Orff and ”Lepaca Kliffoth”.

Vovin

Now this album must have cost a mere fortune to produce. 5 female vocalists and 3 male ones, together with violinists and lots of other musicians. This is the spiritual follower after Theli. (I regard A'Arab Zaraq as a different chapter in the Therion saga, but will hopefully have the opportunity to review it soon). The music is still very operatic with impressive arrangements and almost perfect production. It's a bit more Arabic influenced then before and softer to listen to, but you will like it if you liked Theli. The only sad thing in my opinion is that they have wasted the aggressive male vocals they used to have in favor for operatic ones exclusively. The material and everything else is just superb. It's also fairly long with 55 min.
