Dark Medieval Times

This has to be the best band ever and in my opinion it is all that. Only a
few bands comes up to this level with their music. I believe that this is
the best album of 1993 with the very high class and original B.M. Satyr,
the genius main guy behind the band, has written, recorded and produced
all music trough his own label Moonfog (has also produced Isengard,
Wongraven, Storm and Darkthrone plus some other goodies). Only the drums
did Frost play, but he is some drummer, I'll put him in the same class as
Hellhammer and Abbath Doom Occulta. The music is very good B.M. with much
keyboard and a medieval touch that makes it quite original.

The Shadowthrone

Wow! This is even better then the debut album. This has to be the best
album of 1994 (although it got tough competition). Same high class
material and well played music. There's not really a big difference in
the music but the big plus is the much better production and sound
harmony. These two album has to be in a B.M. collection.

The Forest is my Throne
split with Enslaved

This is an early 1992 demo from the great Norwegian band on a split with
an old Enslaved demo from the same period. The sound is much more brutal
and progressive then on the albums. One of the songs are featured on the
debut full-length album so you can really hear the lacking recording here,
but it is interesting to follow a great band's birth and
development.
The second part is the old Enslaved demo. It has lousy
sound and it is hard to hear anything. It's so bad that I don't think
many of you out there will like it if your not completely into Enslaved.
But if you do you will hear some very good songs and riffs but with an
extremely bad sound quality. This album should mostly be bought because of
the interesting Satyricon feature.

Nemesis Divina

At first I confess that I was a bit disappointed at Satyricon's third but
after a few listenings through it I found that it is just as good as the
others only with a slight change in the sound. The music is nowdays more
guitar based then before and it doesn't depend so much on the keyboards
any more. Personally I think it's a bit sad since I really loved their old
style now it sounds more like other bands with heavy use of keyboards
although it's still pretty original. To make up for the difference have
they really learned to master their instruments even better then before
and the songs are perhaps also better (judge for yourself), so I like this
album a lot and ranks it as one of the best of 1996 so far (although I
know there are some really killer albums coming out this year). Another
new thing is the original and beautiful cover artwork (not at all as the
old stuff) which is very cool with a falcon crucified to a inverted
cross.

Mother North Video
This was a bit of a surprize for me. I've heard that Impaled Nazarine and
Immortal where going to do videos, but I was surprized to suddently find
Burzum and Satyricon aswell. Well I bought it eventhough it was very
expensive (100 SEK) for only 15 min. I must say that I was amazed of how
good it was. It has great production and is very professionally done.
Great song and great pictures with the members walking around and
breathing fire, drinking blood and other stuff. They have also got a young
girl dancing naked throughout the video and that's why there are two
different versions of it. First it's the censored version where all the
features with the girl showing her pussy is fuzzy so you don't see
anything. Then it's the normal version without censorship. Other then that
there are just a few clips that seperates the two different versions. I
would like to call this video tyhe best music video made so far. I haven't
seen Immortals video yet, but this is great stuff.

Megiddo MCD
Satyricons 21 min MCD starts with a industrialized remix of "The Dawn of a
New Age" made by Apoptygma Berzerk. I hate these kind of remixes and this
is no exception. It's not metal anymore and should be avoided. The second
song is a re-recording of "The Dark Castle in the Deep Forest" called
"Night of Divine Power", but it's just new lyrics and some new keyboards,
all with a more primitive production (There's not a big difference). The
third song is a live version of "Forhekset" with quite poor sound, but
lots of feeling. Then last comes the song that's all worth the money.
Satyricon's brilliant version of Motörhead's old classic "Orgasmatron".
It's a very metallic sound to this recording and the cruel voice of Satyr
fits it perfectly. This is even better then Sepultura's version a couple
of years ago. This song rules everything. Still the overall rating can't
be that high since most of this album isn't that good.
