Lost Paradise
Very slow and Doomy death metal. I think that this is the very first
Doom/Death metal album to be made. Released 1990 it started a trend
generating bands like Anathema, My Dying Bride and Candlemass. The
material is pretty good now, but it was great back then. Nowadays I
get abit bored by it in the long run as it sounding quite the same
althrough the 40 min. They used a few good keyboards here and there
plus a female backing vocalist on one song that gave it special
feelings. The production is very bad, but you must remember that it's
recorded in 1989 and its a debut from Peacevile.

Gothic
Slow and gothic doom death metal. This is deathier then their later
stuff but not as deathy as "Lost Paradise". Very good songs and music.
But the production is very poor. They also use some interesting female
vocals here and there which gives it a special feeling. This is one
of their best albums, only "Shades of God" is better mainly because
of it's better production.

Shades of God
Doom death metal with a twist to the gothic style is what Paradise Lost
gives us. Extremely good material and well performed. The production isn't
the best but it suits this album perfectly. The vocals are deathy but
still
very clear and it's easy to hear the lyrics. This is probably the best
doom death metal album ever together with My Dying Brides "Turn Loose the
Swans". The song As I Die (only featured on the CD version) kills
everything.
This is their best album but "Gothic" is pretty close.

Icon
Great opening song, infact it's one of the best openings on a album
ever. the material is overall not as good as on "Shades..." but 3 or
4 are among their best ever. This album has rockier music which is
simpler with shorter songs and just a few riffs. This time is the
production one of the best with incredible sound.

Gothic EP.
A new mixing of two old "Gothic" songs and two from "Lost Paradise".
The songs from "Gothic" is great and the title track is featured here
aswell. The songs from "Lost Paradise" is also good but they are too
deathy for my taste. The music feels a bit fresher with this new mixand
the sound is over all better then the originals. (I can't verify that for
with the "Lost Paradise" songs because I haven't heard that album).

Draconian Times

Good piano intro to a very good opening track that has nice choir like
effects and nice rythm. The second track is a bit faster but also very
good, all in the vain of "Icon". Then comes their first singel "The Last
time", a song that I don't think really fit Paradise Lost, it's much too
happy and poprockish. Over all is this album one of their weakest, it
doesn't reach the high quality in material as "Shades of Good", "Gothic"
nor "Icon". But it's still great stuff with 3 or 4 very good songs. The
one thing this album is alot better then either of the earlier albums is
the incredible production and the harmonies in the music. Those things are
amazing.
