Cause of Death
I haven't heard "Slowly We Rot" but judging from this is it not a
good album. The album opens up with a great intro but when the music
starts to go faster it just drops all qualities. Most songs are like
that, good riffs in the beginning but then it falls flat and becomes
uninteresting. One by one the songs are quite good but all together
they get boring, they sound just too much alike. The music is very
heavy and the vocals very hoarse and original but they tend to get
boring in the long run. It sounds much like Hellhammer/early Celtic Frost
and I guess that they were a big inspiration. I think you must be in
a certain mood to listen to this music and when that is accruing then it's
a good album. A plus is the cover artwork which is splendid. It's stolen
from one of H.P. Lovecraft's book covers and Obituary was actually sued
because of that. One of the songs is a cover of Celtic Frost's
"Circle of the Tyrant" but it sound's just as all other songs.
In the right mood is this a 3 1/2 rated album but since that seldomly
occur I'm only giving it 2.

The End Complete
Now they learned something and also the faster parts are good. The
production is also better (not saying anything was wrong before).
The first three tracks are more like the older albums and nothing
to cheer about, but the rest are very good. Finally their material
fits their style. This can be Obituary's best album. OK their newest
"World Demise" is probably better musically and productionwise, but
since it's a protest against environmental exploration it's not a
death metal album. That is LIFE metal and doesn't fit here. Tiamat's
newer stuff is also life metal, but since they're not calling their
music death metal anymore it's nothing I have a problem with.
