Mithotyn

In the Sign of the Ravens

Midtempo Viking Metal with some great riffs and good atmosphere, but nothing really original. They use both grim and normal deep male vocals which I think suits this kind of music best. The music is quite primitive, but they use some keyboards and some of it's great, but I don't think that the barrock style of music fits a Viking metal band. luckily it's only temporary. There are some shorter flute tunes with medieval sound which brings some atmosphere, also some male choirs helps it alot through the 56+ min. it takes to play it. A little more viking feeling would make it much better.

King of the Distant Forest

I was disapointed at this release at first as it starts of with very fast and brutal music and high screamy vocals just like the normal B.M. band usually do. The viking feeling was none so ever. Then came a slower part with lots of feeling. I think that they have better songs and better production then on the debut, but they have lost some of the important feeling. Still some parts have tons of it and those are mainly slower with normal vocals. They have managed to create a good balance between the faster and the slower parts. This album allows much more listening then the debut did and it's alot better overall, but I'd like to hear more viking feeling. Have they stolen that riff on the 10th song from Einherjar or am I mistaking?
