Deathcrush EP.

Here's a real classic, Mayhems first demo re-released as a EP. It is one of the biggest and most important releases in the B.M. genre. If it weren't for Mayhem, most of today's band would have sounded a lot different. It should be reviewed as an Demo and as a demo it's an OK first release, the sound is bad and the band don't play very well. But on the other hand, so do you have a great atmosphere found in few albums and some very good material. To buy this one as your first Mayhem album is maybe not such a good idea, then it's much better to buy a later release like the never to be surpassed De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, with is one of history's best albums. But if your a old fan who just want it more for it's their first and you know how bad the sound usually is, you will find if to be great. It was originally released 1987 on vinyl only and limited to a 1000 copies.

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

What a great album!!! This is by far one of the best I've ever heard! I think this is one of Norway's best releases yet. The cool sound and atmosphere much thanks too Attila's very odd vocals. It may take some time to get used to them but then it's supreme! This is far better in quality then all the other Mayhem albums and demos I've heard much because the good sound.

Dawn of the Black Hearts

This is a live bootleg tribute to the late Dead. It's recorded by a fan on one of his last concerts outside Oslo in the late summer of -91. The cover (if you know where to look you will find it on the net) shows how he was found. Musically it has very very bad sound quality (This beats Profanatica & Fimbulwinter many time over when it comes to bad sound). It's so bad sound that it's hard to tell which song it is, but it got a great atmosphere and feeling. Dead is as usual screaming out the words so you hardly can hear them and the others are playing like they used to. For all you die hard Mayhem fans out there is this a must have album limited to 666 copies (at least they say it is liited, but the album seems to be available everywhere so I don't believe that).

Pure Fucking Armageddon

Alright! Mayhem's debut demo rereleased... Oh no it sucks! Let me explain. This demo contains 9 songs, of them are 4 songs are done twice at different occations (there's no big differnce). The recording is very primitive (I don't think I have ever heard a worse demo) and there's no production or mixing at all. The result is alot of noise. The vocals can't even be heard most of the time. This is a very cult release, but it's nothing to throw money at if you want to listen to your albums. I think that this just damages the mystic that surrounds the early Mayhem. Before this, you could only dream of this demo and whish you ever got hold on a copy. Now it's rereleased and it turns out to be shit. Deathcrush is also a demo, but it sounds good. Most songs on this release are featured on Deathcrush.
