Headbangers Against Disco 7" trilogy

Alright! let’s quit woosing around here! Metal was made to Kick Ass and Kick Ass it shall do! I just want to point out that I’m no expert on old 80’s thrash, so there will not be any "sounds like Possessed" or "makes me think of Destruction" as I havent’t heard them. I don’t know which band did the song as original if it’s a cover, but I still wanted to review these little bastards anyway as they are too important and cool to be ignored.

Vol 1

Vol 1 is the weakest of this trio, but it’s still no dance on roses, more like jumping in a thornbush. First out is Sabbath with a happy little tune entitled "Baby, Disco is Fuck". It’s a brilliant song with cool riffs, but the voclas are horrible (And I mean that in a negative way). It’s just like some old German thrash demo or something, but maybe that was delibrate. The second song is with our old favouries Gehennah and it’s called "Discodeath". it’s in that good old motörhead style but it might feel uneasy for some as just that same thing happened at Stureplan in Stockholm a couple of years ago. Some loser of a drugaddict unleashed a machinegun into a disco killing 4 (I think) and injuring something like 30 people. The guy who did it was to drunk to get in and know he rots in jail and he deserves it as he wasn’t better then the ones who got shot. hmmm, I almost lost my rock hard image there, but who said that a hardrocker is unsensitive, haha. Third out is Infernö with "Metal Attack" which is a cool old thrashy song as one remembers them. Last but not least is Bestial Warlusts "Beerz and Blood" which is brutal and fast as thay always are and it rounds up vol 1 nicely.

Vol 2

The whole A-side is filled with a brilliant live recording of "Anno Sathanas" with Usurper that really grinds your bones to dust and pushes your carcass into the ground. It’s one of the best songs I’ve heard and it really works well live. Impressivly good recording. This song kicks your ass to the other side. On the B-side we have "Metal Attack" with Unpure and "Witches Sabbath" with Nifelheim. Unpure has another classical thrash songs with lots of feeling while Nifelheim is fast and ass kicking as usual and it belongs among the favourites.

Vol 3

"Disco, Bloody Disco" is a fast and chaotic 80’s german thrash song with and it gets better and better every time I hear it. it’s cool to hear a good old guitar solo The sound it reminds me of Crowbar, only its faster. "Metal Never Bends" is a brutal thrashy and cool pice with to freak out your grandma with. "Rockbringer" is the closest you get to ordinary commercial music here, but I still think that it’s one of the best songs of this collection. Iron Rainbow has a very good song in a more traditional heavymetal/thrash kinda way. Normal vocals and catchy riffs makes it stick to your mind for a long time. It’s heavier then Maiden or Halloween and I would fit them on the edge of thrash. Last but not least is Loudpipes with "Don’t You ever" which is fast, brutal and hysterical music with screamy vocals and good riffs. Makes your head nodd back and fourth and my fingers try to write in phase with the music.

All in all is this a very good collection which really brings fourth some memories. The production is surprisingly good on most tracks and all songs has at least good quality. To gives this a grade is perhaps tougher then one think as my heart gives it 5 instantly and it’s hard to be objective about it. It’s all a re-run of ancient times which man still dreams about. It’s only released on vinyl 7" and there will be no CD’s. I guess that it can be tough to find these albums in other countries but if you like old thrash, I think it’s really worth a try.
