First Spell MCD
Here we got a very good debut album form Norwegian Gehenna (There's
at least two more bands with almost exactly the same name). The band call
their music ghost metal and that I think gives a pretty clear picture of
how it sounds. The main instrument seems to be the keyboards accompanied
by guitars, bass and drums. The atmosphere the special sound gives is
quite special and I've never heard anything like it before. The music is
other then that a bit slower then the usual stuff and very well
performed. I think that this is one of the best albums ever.

Seen through the veils of darkness (Second Spell)

I had waited a long time for the upcoming album after the great debut,
but what have they done? Gone are the cool original Ghost Metal style and
instead it's replaced with something else. I don't know what to call it
but
it's still within the B.M. genre and still original. It's pretty primitive
with lots of keyboards and original grim/growling mixed vocals. The
material is great but the production could have been better plus the
cover ain't to good looking either. I personally liked the old sound
better but friends of mine don't all agree, but I still think that this is
one of the best albums ever eventhough I can't help to wonder what it
would have been with the old sound.

Our Third Spell

Wow! this is faster and more brutal then the previous material. The riffs
and music is as great as always, and the production is good. The vocals
has changed as there now is two guys singing in the band, so they kind of
alternate the vocal parts. This is a killer album, but why does't they
have as much keyboards as before? they still use it, but now only in the
background instead of letting them play the main riffs. As for now i'm
only giving this album 4 1/2 because I feel that I haven't heard it
enought yet, but it's constantly growing with each listening.

Black Seared Heart
This is Gehenna's old demo of -93 re-released on CD. Great production I
must say, it beats many albums. The musical style is much like the ghostly
"First Spell" but crueler and more primitive. A very evil atmosphee I must
say. The demo is followed by old rehersal tracks that later ended up in
"Second Spell" in different versions, but neither of them has
any good production. If you liked "First Spell" I strongly recommend this
album. It's only 32 min. long, but only a couple of the songs are featured
on the albums, so I still think it's worth the money.

Deadlights MCD
Great songs, but once again I don't think it's as good as earlier
stuff. This has been the case with all Gehenna albums, but after 25
listenings it changes. So I might have to come back to this and
re-review it later. It's good music with power and good material. The
style has changed a bit, it's more industrial and technical with an
interesting sound to it, but one can still hear that it's Gehenna.
It's a bit in the vein of Mysticum, but not THAT technical. The first
track is a taste of the upcoming album "Admiron Black". The second
song is also new, but the third was recorded back in '96. This MCD
gives high hopes on the future album. 16 min. isn't the longest MCD
but it was expensive and is said to be very limited.
