A Blaze in the Northern Sky

I usually count this album as Darkthrone's first sense Soulside Journey is a bad death metal album without any good remarks. This though is slightly different, and it counts as one of the major trendsetters in the B.M. scene. The Music is so primitive and straight forward but has still got very good riffs and melodies. This was infact the very first B.M. album I'd heard and it took me by storm. The wild screaming guitars and the incredible fast drums was the worst I'd ever heard, but still somewhere there was a pattern in the music. Nowadays this is one of the "old classic" albums and should be in every home. The quality of the sound and the production isn't very good though but who cared back then? The songs and lyrics are amazing and drew me into a new genre of Metal.

Under a Funeral Moon

Just a few days after I'’d heard A Blaze... I had to buy the new album just out from this great band. And I thought this was even better and I still do. The band members are a bit better musicians and better song writers (A Blaze... has very good material too) plus the tunes has becomed simpler in their structure, although the rawness is still there, big time. I think this is Darkthrone's best together with Panzerfaust, a must have album.

Transylvanian Hunger

I and plenty of other fans had great expectations for the fourth album when it was released. Unfortunately I bought it before listening to it, which wasn't very smart. This album wasn't of the same high musical quality as the penultimate two. The songs is even simpler (they're actually very monotone and you get tired of the riff after just two "laps") and the sound is worse then anything I've ever heard (that's actually not true, Fimbulwinter and Profanatica's sound is in fact worse). This is not a good album, but I know that some people love it so you can try to listen to it and hear what you think.

Panzerfaust

When Darkthrone released this album was I a bit sceptic, would it suck just like the previous one or would it be good? It turned out to be the later alternative and it is in fact so good that I would call it their best so far. The sound is a bit more like Under A... and the material is said to be reminding of good old Celtic Frost (I can't Judge for my self sense I hardly even heard them, they where before my time). Fenris has as in the previous album, had help from Varg Vikernes alias Count Grishnackh with the lyrics. The songs are great yet the sound and production could be better, and the riffs are of the kind that gets in your head and you find yourself humming on "The Hordes of Nebulah" or "Quintessence". I really recommend this album!

Total Death

It came out quickly, the follower to one of Darkthrone's best albums, and soon the old Goatlord album will be released as well. With this album has Darkthrone taken a bit different path then usual. It where traces of it on Panzerfaust but here it's quite clearly that they are getting heavier soundvise. This is in my opinion not a bad thing, at least so far because it made this album much more original and easier to listen to. The songs are of good old Darkthrone nature but perhaps not as high of quality as we are used to but instead with that much darker but still very brutal sound and the cool vocals as always. The lyrics on this album are written by the whole Norwegian scene (almost) with authors like: Satyr, Faust, Nocturno Culta and Fenris to mention a few. I like this album very much although it differs quite a bit from the old faster stuff and I think it's a well spend investment, this time the cover is a real piece of art and the CD fits the CD-Wall perfectly.
