Dark Funeral MCD

This must be one of the strongest debut albums of all time, what a
album! It got everything you can wish for and more. Fucking great
material and music plus that the recording and production is good. I
believe this band is a force to be reckon with in the Scandinavian
Black metal scene.

Secrets of the black arts

Dark Funeral has to be one of the strongest forces in the Swedish B.M.
scene but this album is not what I'd expected. The music are as brutal and
evil as few other bands are, but this is not of the same caliber as the
MCD above and it did not reach up to my high expectations after hearing
it. The CD is suffering from what I could call the Marduk syndrome since
they where the first in this genre experiencing this problem. Another
famous band is Emperor. It's very simple, The debut Demo/MCD or split CD
as in Norwegian Emperor's case has
a much higher quality then the following full length album. Just listen to
Marduk's "Departure from the Mortals" which are featured on both the "Fuck
Me Jesus" Demo and on the following "Dark Endless" album. The later
version sucks. Or listen to Emperor's "I am the Black Wizards" on the
"Hordanes Land" split with Enslaved and then compare it with the version
on
"In the Nightside Eclipse", where did that extra touch go? Here we have
the same situation, and since "My Dark Desires" and "Shadows over
Transylvania" are featured here to so can you easily hear the difference
in the production. This production stinks if you compare it to the MCD.
That cool rawness and brutality together with that extra touch is gone,
lost in the production and I can't imagine how the guy's could be
satisfied. Eventhough all this makes it a worse so is it still one of the
best and you should definitely get it, but just don't have to high
expectations because the MCD is better.

Vobiscum Satanas
There's nothing new under the banner of Dark Funeral. Musically that is.
The band has had some major changes and only Ahriman remains from the
original set. The music and style is very much the same as on The Secret
of The Black Arts. I have learned to like "…Black Arts" over the years, as
I didn't like it originally. It may very well be the same story with this
album as my first impressions aren't very good. It's brutal and fast and
it kicks Christian ass, but in my opinion it lacks something. If you liked
"…the Black Arts" you will surely like this aswell, so I guess that this
too will be a big seller. Another sad thing is the short playing time of
only 35 min. but those minutes is so intense that it's more the
enough.
