Fuck Me Jesus

It's banned in 7 countries, it's hated everywhere, it's Marduk's demo Fuck
Me Jesus. This has to be the best demo release ever, the sound is just to
good to believe it's a demo, it's even better then on their first two
albums! If you compare it to the albums it's much like Dark Endless but
a lot more brutal and evil. Not at all as soft as their later stuff
(perhaps with exclusion of Opus Nocturne). I believe that this is Marduk's
best release yet although Opus Nocturne is pretty close, mostly because
it's longer in playing time. It starts off with a sampled intro from a
movie (The Exorcist I believe), and then all hell breaks loose, finally
the
fifth an last track is a harmonic outro that's very nice and beautiful.
The rest is more Death metal then the later stuff, but just the
brutality....
wow! This has to be in every black metal head's collection.

Dark Endless
A major step back from the Demo. Eventhough all three real songs of Fuck
Me Jesus is represented here as well, is this far from it's great and
brutal sound. It's hard to imagine that it's the same band. This is more
of a B.M. album, with grim vocals and an own original sound with cool
sound effects and keyboards from time to time. This style is Ok-ish but
since I've heard the earlier Demo, it's a big disappointment. This
however is the style that led down to the great modern sound they have
today, and it do show great potential even on this stage.

Those of the Unlight
This one is much better the Dark Endless. It made Marduk to one
of the biggest bands in the genre. I personally don't believe that it's so
damn good as everyone said. It's not bad, but I think that there's a lot
better albums out there. Though there are a couple of tracks that are very
good, like Wolves and Echoes from the Past, but in total it don't give me
much pleasure, so I don't listen to it to often.

Opus Nocturne

This is more like it! Until now I haven't thought that Marduk was so damn
great, but then they released this one plus the awesome Fuck Me Jesus.
This album has a lot better material plus better sound and production.
Together with Dissection and Mörk Gryning this has to be Sweden's best
releases of 1995.

Heaven Shall Burn...
When We are Gathered

Fast, brutal and well performed B.M. as always. Personally I think this is
their best album so far because there are some differences from the
earlier stuff. First of all, their old vocalist left the band in favor of
Legion known from Ophthalamia whom is a lot better in my opinion, and
second of all, the music is faster, better and more intensive then before
(I'm not a big fan of Marduk but this is good) The negative about this
album is the short playing time of only 34 min. But you can't have
all.

Glorification MCD
THis MCD reminds much of Bewitched's "Encyclopedia of Evil" - One own song
and a bunch of cover songs. In this case it's bands like Piledriver,
Destruction and Bathory who gets a dose of Mardukification. 4 coversongs
that's all good and nice to listen to, but do we really need this release?
This is more of an album a band would do just to have fun in the studio.
Besides the original versions are as always the best. So my guess is that
this suits the real Die-Hard fans of Marduk best.

Nightwing
This is partly a theme album dealing with the life of one certain Vlad
Dracula that lived in Transylvanian Carpathians in the 15th century or so.
It has nothing to do with the vampire myth at all, but describes the
brutal and barbaric acts that he really performed. The way this theme is
done reminds much of Cradle of Filth's "Cruelty and the Beast" which tells
us about a similar story about Elisabeth Bathory. There's no real
difference between the theme songs and the first part of this album other
then the lyrical part. I regard this as Marduk's best album ever. It has
very good material, it's well produced and it's just as fast and brutal as
a real Marduk album should be. The musical style hasn't changed but the
material is better then ever. The only sad thing is that one song is a new
recording of Deme Quaden Thyrane from "Heaven...".
